There are a broad range of factors that may lead to a child requiring restorative dentistry services. For example, a sports accident, poor diet, or inconsistent dental hygiene can all lead to issues such as tooth decay or broken teeth. Here at Smile Cove Pediatric Dental, we offer several restorative dentistry options to best treat your child’s specific needs.

A Quick Guide to Children’s Restorative Dentistry

Below, we’d like to go over a few important services we can offer if your child requires restorative dental care.

  • Dental Crowns: Crowns are tooth-shaped caps designed to cover and protect a damaged, weak, or decaying tooth, allowing children to eat normally. Crowns can be made out of a variety of materials, including stainless steel and porcelain.
  • Fillings: Dental fillings are one of the most common procedures in restorative dentistry. A filling is used to treat minor tooth decay and cavities, essentially replacing the decayed areas of the tooth and restoring it to its original shape. Temporary fillings are also available if a child is too young for a permanent filling.
  • Pulpotomy: If tooth decay is severe enough, it can reach the pulp of a baby tooth. When this happens, a pulpotomy is needed to remove the infected pulp, clean the area, and apply a filling.
  • Silver Diamine Fluoride: This is a less invasive solution for treating cavities in children. The procedure involves applying a solution of silver and fluoride to the damaged tooth to prevent the cavity from worsening and strengthen the tooth’s enamel.
